Art

Gorgeous murals, huge sculpures and giant serpents are just some of the art installations that Thames21 have commissioned to bring beauty to blank walls and forgotten corners of London's waterways

3 waterside art installations will be unveiled this December in Southall and Ealing as part of a community inclusion project called MESH. These spectacular sculptures of a damsel fly, heron and kingsfisher were partly made from materials dumped into the canals including a shopping trolley, old washing lines and coloured plastic.

The artist Kevin Herlihy made the sculptures with local people including the Alperton Community School and a local Hindu temple giving the community real ownership over these pieces. Bold, colourful and beautiful, these are set to become destination pieces of community artwork. Thanks to British Waterways for funding this project.
