Art and Music

volunteers help to make a Kingfisher sculpture from recycled materials.Gorgeous murals, huge sculptures and giant serpents are just some of the art installations that Thames21 have commissioned to bring beauty to blank walls and forgotten corners of London's waterways.

Three waterside art installations were unveiled recently in Southall and Ealing as part of a community inclusion project called MESH. These spectacular sculptures of a damsel fly, heron and kingsfisher were partly made from materials dumped into the canals including a shopping trolley, old washing lines and coloured plastic.bringing litter to musical life at the Thames Festival 2009!

The artist Kevin Herlihy made the sculptures with local people including the Alperton Community School and a local Hindu temple giving the community real ownership over these pieces. Bold, colourful and beautiful, these are set to become destination pieces of community artwork. Thanks to British Waterways for funding this project.

We have also partnered with musicians from the Philharmonia Orchestra to turn litter items into musical instruments for mass performances at the Thames Festival outside City Hall, thanks to support from Unilever.
