All Party Parliamentary Group versus Metropolitan Police fishing match announced

To mark National Fishing Week, a coarse fishing match will take place on Wednesday 23 July between members of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) and the Metropolitan Police with all money raised going towards Thames21’s angling work.

This will be a 5-a-side event with a trophy kindly provided by Thames Water who are sponsoring the event. The match will take place at 11am-3pm and is hoped to become an annual event. The match will be open to the public, with the weigh-in and presentations expected at 3.30pm.

Thames 21’s angling programme – Catch21 - works to develop socially inclusive and environmentally aware angling opportunities in London. Open to all and with a focus on deprived inner London areas, Catch21 provides free expert coaching for young people; many of whom have never fished before, and mentors young people to become angling coaches.

Catch21 creates opportunities through angling, to reduce anti-social behaviour, learn new skills, meet people, promote respect for the environment and wildlife welfare, and to restore London's waterways to health. The match will also be an opportunity for some of the young people who have benefited from Thames21’s angling work to demonstrate their talents as they fish alongside the APPG and Met Police. Catch21 is supported by the Environment Agency.

Wednesday 23rd July | 11.00am – 3.00pm
Venue: Lake John at Waltham Cross, 2 the Nightingales, Aimes Green, Galley Hill, Waltham Abbey, EN9 2BJ. Lake John is a 25 peg commercial fishery, well-stocked with carp, bream and roach and will provide reliable sport. Click here for a map of the location.
