Volunteers needed for Thurrock Thames Tidy

Thames21 needs local volunteers to help litter blitz a section of the River Thames in Thurrock on Saturday February 10th at low tide.

Local residents got in touch with Thames21 to get help to tackle a dirty section of the Thames foreshore that is ruining their enjoyment of this magnificent river.

Thames21's River Programmes Manager Chris Coode said, 'Typical river rubbish includes plastic bags, cans, dumped electrical goods, shopping trolleys and car tyres. It doesn't only look unsightly, but also threatens the Thames's fragile ecosystems killing wildlife and driving local people away.

Thames21 provide practical solutions for communities wanting to improve and maintain their local stretches of river or canal. This could be a one-off clean up or a longer term project to reduce litter, improve wildlife habitats and attract local people to use and enjoy their environment."

Thames21 is looking for volunteers to join local residents and everyone is welcome. All equipment is provided. Wear old clothes appropriate to the weather. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
