Help keep the Slough Canal beautiful

Environmental charity Thames21 is calling on local people to help clean and green the Slough Arm of the Grand Union Canal with community partners Friends of Slough Canal on Saturday July 15 at 9:30am.

This is the second clean up this year and volunteers will help to remove litter blighting the Mansions Lane section. The summer clean will help to improve the appearance of the Slough Canal and benefit the wildlife that thrives along and in the canal.

Canal Programmes Manager Theo Thomas said 'Everyone is welcome to join forces with Thames21 and the Friends of Slough Canal to help keep the Slough Canal beautiful. Clean up work benefits everyone who enjoys the canal and is a chance to link with local people interested in making a positive difference to the Slough Canal.'

Local councillor Tony Haines "We were asked to help improve the Mansion Lane section of the canal after our very successful clean up in the spring."

Volunteers can just turn up on the day and get involved in fun and practical outdoor work. Sturdy footware advisable, other equipment provided. Light refreshments are being provided courtesy of High Line Yachting Ltd. Thanks also to the Inland Waterways Association and to British Waterways which will be providing a boat to help clear heavy litter from the canal.
