Thurrockly Good!

Over 30 volunteers including local residents, Thurrock Yacht Club and councillors joined forces with environmental charity Thames21 to remove litter from a stretch of the River Thames in Thurrock.

The valiant volunteers removed over two tonnes of river rubbish including tyres, traffic cones, 10 shopping trolleys, scaffolding poles and lots more.

This was the first clean up Thames21 has run in Thurrock and we will be back to carry out more clean up work this year.

Thames21’s Enhancement Coordinator Vic Richardson said, “It’s fantastic that so many volunteers turned up to clear litter from this section of the Thames. We were really pleased to see so many young people out in force and they worked really well as a team. Volunteering is a great way to make a difference to your local river and to make contact with other people interested in improving the neighbourhood.”

A big thank you to everyone who braved the rain and cold to transform this stretch of the River Thames.
