Only Rain in Rivers

Ewww! Stinking waste from toilets, washing machines and sinks is going straight into your local river!

Only Rain in Rivers is a campaign that seeks to engage Londoners in helping to clean up their local open spaces and waterways by making simple changes at home and at work.
Around 10% of properties in London are accidentally polluting their local waterways through bad plumbing; when our waste water is sent down the rain pipe!

We’re asking Londoners to  pledge to check their properties for misconnected plumbing and  to think about what they flush down the toilet.

MAKE YOUR PLEDGE TO TAKE THESE ACTIONS: BE THE SOLUTION TO WATER POLLUTION

o    Get your misconnections correctedcheck your home for existing misconnections and get them fixed

o    Don’t pour fats and oils, or throw food waste  down the sink; and don’t put wipes, cotton buds or feminine hygiene products down the toilet, even if the products are labelled as flushable. For more information, take a look at Thames Water’s Bin it – don’t block it campaign

o    Only rain down the drain – don’t pour paint and oils or throw food waste down the drains that you see on our roads as they lead to your local waterway

o    Connect with your local waterway – find out more about river conservation groups near you – currently Only Rain in Rivers is working with the following river catchment groups.
