Training terms and conditions

Thames21 welcomes everyone who is interested in training, regardless of previous experience. We ask you to complete an initial registration form to help us ensure that we meet your learning needs during the delivery of the course, and capture information that will help us monitor and record who our participants are and where they come from. It will also help us identify and meet any special needs with regards to access and environment.

If you are trying to book less than a week in advance of the course we recommend that you contact the training officer directly in case the course is already full. Places are accepted on a first-come first-served basis, and additional names will be placed on a reserve list. With this in mind, we ask that any cancellations are made with at least a week’s notice so that we can offer the place to another person. A reminder, containing up-to date information about the venue, timings and other requirements will be sent out two weeks before the course.

If you are paying for the training, any cancellations made two weeks before the session will be fully refunded. Unfortunately, unless in special circumstances, for any cancellation made within two weeks, the full fee will be payable.

Trainees should dress comfortably, for both indoor and outdoor activity; bring a pen and notebook, and be prepared to participate. During sessions the Thames21 training officer reserves the right to ask any trainee who is disruptive, inappropriate or intolerant of others to leave the training.

If you are undertaking the two-day Leading a Waterway Clean-up training, please note:

OVERVIEW OF TRAINING CERTIFICATION AND ACCREDITATION

To gain a certificate of achievement recognised by NCFE, participants must complete both days of the essential module ‘Leading a Waterway Clean Up’ and associated assessments. Assessments include:

  • Learning questionnaires associated with each day of the training;
  • A written site/activity proposal;
  • Participation in – and evaluation of – a Thames21 event

To gain Thames21 accreditation for an event you have organised yourself, you must complete the essential training module and assessments as outlined above, then:

  • Liaise with Thames21 on aspects of event organisation and delivery
  • Submit a method statement and risk assessment
  • Enable a Thames21 Officer to observe your event

Thames21 will ‘badge’ your event; a seal of approval which means that you will be covered by our public liability insurance and be eligible for a suite of support including first aid training for key members of the group.
