Volunteering

Volunteering at a Thames21 event enables you to make an immediate, positive impact on your environment. For this reason alone, our events attract 7,000 people annually – a diverse range of people of all ages, backgrounds and fitness levels.

Volunteering with us is a way to make a difference to waterways for the benefit of people and wildlife, to meet new people and get close to an informal, natural space – even in the heart of the city.

There are many different ways to volunteer; from clean-ups to education to citizen science. Events take place across London on one of the many Thames tributaries or on London’s iconic river itself.

All levels of commitment are welcome – you can join a one-off event, or get involved more regularly.

Keep an eye on our events calendar for the latest opportunities.

You could get involved in river clean-ups across our many projects, or, after training, become a member of the Event Support Team to help lead events. You can even train to become a Badged Group leader, which means you can lead your own clean ups under Thames21’s public liability insurance. If you want to help us engage with the communities we work in, you could train to become a Waterway Engagement Volunteer.

We also have corporate volunteering opportunities. We tailor corporate volunteering and team-building events to meet the needs of organisations. We also welcome offers of help in ways other than clean-ups, for example with fundraising and administrative tasks.

We look forward to seeing you!
