Brook Farm Open Space, Barnet Conservation Day on the Dollis Brook
February 17 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pmFree
Join Thames21 and help increase biodiversity of your local river by allowing more light into the river. Our team of volunteers did a great job of planting hundreds of plug plants during autumn 2018. The area is heavily over-shaded by a tree canopy. We are going to cut select branches from trees to allow our ground level species a better chance to grow during the Spring and Summer period. We will also be exploring the length of the river to see how the river has reacted to removing the toeboards during 2018. Lastly, we will complete some riverfly monitoring to see how and if the invertebrate population has changed. I say lastly, Brook Farm Open Space events will continue to conclude with tea and biscuits provided by Thames21.
If you don’t wish to take part in the practical side of the event, but wish to find out more about Thames21, we will be back at the van for tea and coffee around 12:50(ish).
Meeting location is at the southern entrance of Brook Farm Open Space. Look out for the Thames21 branded van. All welcome and no experience required. All equipment will be provided but please could volunteers under the age of 16 be accompanied by a responsible adult.
