Big Wet Wipe Count – CHANGE OF PLANS

New update (18/10/2024):
Following an extensive site visit today, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel the Big Wet Wipe Count on Sunday 20th October due to forecasted high tides. However, we would like to invite volunteers to a Big River Clean up to make use of the amassed energy and enthusiasm for the same day and time. We are sorry for any disappointment that not carrying out the survey will understandably cause.
We will NOT carry out the Big Wet Wipe Count as previously planned. The low tide is too high, and the tide is turning too quickly for the survey to be safe to complete.

If you do still plan to attend the event on Sunday, please meet by Riverside Studios here at 11am on Sunday. We will bring Wellies, Gloves, and Clean-up Equipment. Please wear warm, weather-appropriate clothing that you don’t mind getting muddy.
Help protect the River Thames by measuring the impact of wet wipes deposited on its shores!
Join Thames21 to gather crucial data on the wet wipes settling in the Thames by getting down and dirty to count them!
Every time it rains in London, the sewers overflow which means the wet wipes that people flush down the loo end up the river. The problem is now so bad that hundreds of thousands are depositing on the river bed.
To assess the scale of the problem, we are looking for volunteers to survey the wet wipes on the foreshore and record the final number.

Children under 16 need to be supervised by an adult. This event is not suitable for children under 10 years old.
