Bury Lodge Wetlands Family Wetland Experience
1st September 2023 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Join Thames21 for a family wetland experience (pond-dipping & watercolour painting) to celebrate local kids’ return to their schools on 1st Sep at 10.30am-12.30pm at Bury Lodge Wetlands.
This will be a morning packed with a fun craft activity within Bury Lodge Wetlands, next to the Salmons Brook, one of the small rivers merging with the River Lea (a tributary of the Thames) in Enfield. We want your child to freely draw the wetlands and its wildlife (plants, fish, and the small invertebrates living in the water) as they see them. Thames21 staff will collect wetland water in trays, in which your children will be able to see small critters using the provided lenses; this will help them draw these organisms that are an important part of the wetlands’ food web.
Aimed at children aged 5-11 years old, an adult must be present.
Date: Friday 1st September
Facilities: Toilets are available at a pub a few minutes away.
What to bring: Please check the weather, dress accordingly, and bring enough water to stay hydrated. Children will not access the water, hence they can wear comfortable footwear. We will provide soap, warm water, and hand sanitiser.
Schedule: 10.30am: Brief Health and Safety talk. 1) 10.40am-11.15am: pond dipping session. 2) 11.15am-12.30pm: watercolour drawing session.
BOOKING ESSENTIAL – Please RSVP by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org by Aug 30th.
A cycle path through Bury Lodge wetlands was opened in autumn 2018 and local people use it to reach other neighbourhoods and/or find enjoy short breaks in a green/blue space near their home.
Photos and video footage will be taken at this event and used by Thames21 for promotional purposes (including, but not limited to, printed materials, social media, newsletters, and our website) and potentially shared with our external partners and funders. If you do not wish to be pictured, please state so in the sign-up sheet.
