London Rivers Week 2025: Exploring the Rights of Rivers webinar
June 5 @ 3:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Please book this FREE event. Join Ewan McGaughey, Professor of Law at King’s College, London, in this special free online webinar exploring the ‘Rights of Rivers’ movement.
There is a growing movement by local communities across the world to secure legal rights for their waterways. It is happening here in the UK also. This was demonstrated when Lewes District Council agreed to recognise the rights of the River Ouse earlier this year.
So, what is this movement? This movement views nature and ecosystems as possessing fundamental rights, just as humans do. These rights take the form of legal personhood, and can be exercised in a court of law and through guardianship bodies established to oversee their implementation.
How can giving rights to a river improve water quality and river health? Let Professor McGaughey guide you through this answer.
Date and time: Thursday 5th June. 3pm-3.30pm
