London Rivers Week: River Walk, River Talk, River Draw

October 23 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

For London’s Rivers Week 2021 members of Surge Co-operative, will lead a walk, talk, litter-pick and collective draw, gathering on the river in a multi-sensory way; to record and restore.

Join us for an afternoon of slowing down to connect, taking care and observing our environment, experiencing how our time in place can be a way of evolving and enriching our collective selves.

We will meet at Three Mills Park, then walk along the Channelsea river together, discussing the nature of islands and their place on waterways, a meandering chat as we litter pick along the river, gathering detritus and good feelings from restoring a sense of balance to this place so many species call home.

The walk will end with a collective drawing session at the Long Wall Path site where we are planning an ecology grarden, on the banks of the Channelsea next to Abbey Mills pumping station. We will focus on Surge’s first floating island that sits in the Channelsea, an enlivening ecosystem, a ‘liver for the river’ which, with funding from Newham’s Community Assembly, will be joined by three more in Spring 2022, co-created with residents of Newham.

There is a maximum number of 15 people for this event, so it’s essential that you sign up for tickets.

London Rivers Week is a partnership campaign run through London Rivers Restoration Group, a sub-group of the Catchment Partnerships in London. It is sponsored by Thames Water.
