As part of a large-scale project to improve the park’s facilities and deal with flooding and pollution at the site, and further downstream, Headstone Manor Park has two new wetland habitats. In the north of the park polluted water entering the park goes through sedimentation ponds and a reed bed which helps to clean the water before it feeds into a historic moat, and on into Yeading Brook. In the south of the park a series of flood basins have been created in order to reduce the flood risk from Yeading Brook in times of heavy rain. These two new areas have created fantastic wildlife habitats as well as being an important part of flood management and pollution control in Harrow.
Join Vicky Duxbury from Thames 21 and Ian Crump, Thames Water’s Biodiversity Officer on a tour of the new wetland habitats Find out about the importance of freshwater wetland habitats and how these are created and managed by Thames 21 and Thames Water.
