North Greenwich river clean-up and monitoring training

January 19 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Join Thames21 and Thames Estuary Partnership to identify and remove the plastic from the beautiful reedbed habitats on Point Wharf (about 50m upstream of the O2 Intercontinental Hotel). When the tide is sufficiently high, the lightweight plastic in the river is deposited on the reedbeds, which are a vital and rare habitat in the estuary.

We want to not only improve the site but better understand when and why the plastic is deposited, so we can better design new reedbeds in a way that they don’t collect litter. This is part of the Estuary Edges project which is investigating how these new habitats interact with the river.

At this session, we will accurately record and remove the amount of litter we find.  We will then train up local volunteers to return to the site twice a week for the following 5 weeks by counting the number of bottles from the Thames path and sending us a photo. If you are interested in being part of the monitoring, please let us know in the form.

REGISTRATION IS ESSENTIAL: PLEASE SIGN UP HERE
