Part 2 – Vital Signs and River Vegetation Management training: on site

May 13 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Would you like to be able to identify the vital signs of a river and
understand how to ‘health check’ your local river?

Would you like to know what vegetation management tasks volunteer groups
can do to maintain and improve their river?

Vital Signs and River Vegetation Management is a two part course which is tailored to the Yeading Brook in Headstone Manor Park.

This course offers an introduction into what makes a river healthy with a focus on the physical processes and structure (hydro-morphology) of a river and its functional habitat (ecology) the river and its surrounding area provides.

We will specifically be referring to the management plan for this site and what volunteers can do to contribute to the ongoing monitoring, maintenance and improvement of wildlife habitat around this new river restoration project.

It is taking place on:

Tuesday 11th May, 10 am – 12:30 pm ONLINE

Thursday 13th May, 10 am – 1:00 pm IN PERSON – Headstone Manor Park
or
Saturday 15th May, 10 am – 1:00 pm
IN PERSON – Headstone Manor Park

Note: There are two in-person sessions to reduce the group sizes, you only need to attend one in-person session

See the Vital Signs of Healthy Rivers course information for more information but please note this course will also be tailored to include practical vegetation management for the Yeading Brook.

Trainee’s that complete this course will:

  • have a greater understanding of what affects the health of a river beyond the visible litter pollution.
  • take part in a site-scoping walk to learn about how the river restoration work at this site is improving the watercourse.
  • have a say in which activities volunteers would like to do as part of the Headstone Manor Park waterway management plan.
  • find out how they can monitor river health by joining citizen science initiatives run by Thames21 and our partners.

If you would like to participate contact Poppy Flint to request a registration form.

Please note, places are limited so please only register if you are committed to attending. People who are volunteering on the project or are local to the area will have priority booking.
