Restoring Enfield’s Rivers Event – Albany Park, River Action Day 28.05.2022

May 28 @ 11:00 am - 2:30 pm

THAMES21 and Enfield Council have teamed up to deliver conservation and restoration events in the London Borough of Enfield, creating cleaner and safer spaces for wildlife and people.

Join us for another free volunteering event on a Saturday! A chance to make new friends and learn new skills. This time we will be at Albany Park, where we will be ‘Balsam Bashing’ along the Turkey Brook.

Tasks: Pulling up and removing Hymalayan Balsam is an important operation for us. This dominant invasive non-native species grows and spreads quickly, and has a very negative effect on other native riparian plants, by aggressively shading them out! Then in winter when the plant dies back, it leaves the ground bare and banks vulnerable to erosion. No experience is necessary but this is a physical activity in, and beside, a moving freshwater water habitat, and is therefore not suitable for children under 11. Waders and wellies provided.

Date: Saturday 28th of May.

Time: 11.00am to 2.30pm.

Location: Albany Park, Enfield. We will be meeting on the West side the park at the end of Albany Road. For those who use the what3words app, a more precise location is bumpy.ranked.found.

By Car: Bell Lane running along the South of the park has plenty of free parking (EN3 5PA). Residential street parking can be found to the North (EN3 6AU) and East but this is limited (Beware that Beaconsfield Road also has a gate half way). Be respectful of residential access of course.

By Bus: Albany Park Avenue (Stop R), and two stops further along Bell Lane, near Castle Road, are all served by route 191 to the South of the park.

By Train: The nearest main line station is Enfield Lock to the North East of the park.

Bring with you: Your lunch and plenty of water. We will provide hot drinks, biscuits, gloves, waders and tools. Please wear suitable sturdy footwear. If you do not have suitable sturdy footwear we have some wellington boots. Please also dress suitably for the weather!

Everyone is welcome, but please sign up using the ‘Thames21 Event Registration Form’ below. This enables us to let you know of any changes!
