Restoring Enfield’s Rivers Event – Bury Lodge Wetlands, River Action Day 30.11.2021

November 30 @ 11:00 am - 2:30 pm

Thames21 and Enfield Council are teaming up to deliver conservation and restoration events in Enfield, creating cleaner and safer spaces for wildlife.

Join us at Bury Lodge Wetlands where we will be managing habitat to make sure the wetlands are functioning as they should and cleaning litter from the Salmons Brook River. Our habitat management events aim to; increase water filtration function, increase biodiversity, increase plant health and manage the spaces to make them accessible for people.

This is a habitat management event, focused around the wetlands at Bury Lodge. The aim of this event is to maintain the wetland cells which filter water that runs along the Salmons Brook and also road runoff from the A10 which would otherwise seep harmful pollutants into the Salmons Brook. We will also be cleaning litter and rubbish from the channel and clearing paths to improve access to the site. The plants in the wetland cells remove heavy metals and pollution from the water and so managing them is excellent for both humans and nature! This work will help to create a wetland that functions as a sustainable urban drainage system or SuDS. This is a lovely site with slow worms, stickleback, egrets and dragonfly! Come and get your dose of the great outdoors with us 🙂

There will be lots of tasks to do on the day including thinning the reed beds, clearing litter and rubbish out of the wetlands and managing the paths to make sure the site is accessible to people using the park. To complete these tasks volunteers will be putting on waders and jumping in the shallow wetland but there will also be lots of activities to do on the banks for people who don’t want to go into the water.

Come down and help us help restore the wetlands at Bury Lodge! Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary. We provide all the tools, equipment and training so you can just turn up and get stuck in!
