Restoring Enfield’s Rivers Event – Cheyne Walk Open Space, River Action Day 24.05.2022
May 24 @ 11:00 am - 2:30 pm
THAMES21 and Enfield Council have teamed up to deliver conservation and restoration events in the London Borough of Enfield, creating cleaner and safer spaces for wildlife and people.
This is an opportunity to explore Cheyne Walk Open Space, a small 16 acre green triangle of grassland and woodland, hidden just South of Enfield Golf Club and just West of Enfield’s Town Park. Here at Cheyne Walk we will be performing a small river clean up along the Salmons Brook, which runs through the open space from North to South.
Tasks: Removing any litter and debris we find to reduce pollution and maintain the natural flow of this tributary to the river Lea and the Thames. No experience is necessary but this is a physical activity in, and beside, a moving freshwater water habitat, and is therefore not suitable for children under 11. Waders and wellies provided.
Date: Tuesday 24th of May
Time: 11.00 am to 2.30 pm.
Location: Cheyne Walk Open Space, Cheyne Walk, Enfield, N21 1DF. Note this particular location covers several postcodes. Whether arriving from the West (recommended) or from the East, our meeting point will be visible on the single surfaced path.
By Car: Residential street parking can be found to the West, such as Cheyne Walk or Uplands Way. To the East the residential parking is very limited and mostly private. Obviously be respectful of residential access, avoiding the obstruction of turning circles and junctions.
By Bus: From the North there is bus stop is The Ridgeway Enfield (D) on Windmill Hill, approx 18min walk from the Open Space. From the West there is Eversley Park Road (Green Dragon Lane) and to the South bus stops near Grange Park railway station.
By Train: Enfield Town station is to the North East and Grange Park station is closer, to the South.
Bring with you: Your lunch and plenty of water. We will provide hot drinks, biscuits, gloves, waders and tools. Please wear suitable sturdy footwear. If you do not have suitable sturdy footwear we have some wellington boots. Please also dress suitably for the weather. It might be very warm by this date, so sunscreen, a hat, and insect repellent might be a good option.
