Restoring Enfield’s Rivers Event – Planting Enfield Chase wetlands Pt.3, River Action Day 26.04.2022

April 26 @ 11:00 am - 2:30 pm

THAMES21 and Enfield Council have teamed up to deliver conservation and restoration events in the London Borough of Enfield, creating cleaner and safer spaces for wildlife and people.

Join us for a third day at Enfield Chase, to the North of the Borough, where we will be planting the wetlands and SuDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems), with the aim of increasing local biodiversity whilst also controlling the flow of water down to Salmons Brook in the valley and controlling sediment and agricultural runoff.

Regular volunteers with Thames21 will know 100,000 trees were planted here during the two recent winters and now we are taking that project a step further, making section 17 of the London Loop path, a very special place to be.

Tasks: Staking coir mats (pronounced ‘koya’) and planting plugs (native flora with a root ball). To complete these tasks volunteers may be putting on waders and venturing into the shallow wetlands but there will also be lots of activities to do on the banks – for people who don’t want to go into the water. Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary.

Date: Tuesday 26th of April

Time: 11.00 am to 2.30 pm. We do our best to accommodate late arrivals but note this event requires walking some distance to site.

Location: Botany Bay Farm Shop, The Ridgeway, Enfield EN2 8AP (A1005, South of East Lodge Lane). For those who use the what3words app, the code for our meeting point is weep.giant.blunt.

By Car: The farmer of the Botany Bay Farm has asked that everyone park on the east side of the property, immediately to the right upon entrance, in order to keep the spaces nearest the shop, further around the corner, clear for shoppers.

By Bus: The 313 and 355 stop regularly at ‘Botany Bay The Robin Hood’. Then just a short walk South to our meeting point inside the farm. The Robin Hood being the local pub!

Bring with you: Your lunch and plenty of water. We will provide hot drinks, biscuits, gloves and tools, but note that for this particular event – returning to your car (or the pub!) during the event will not be possible. Please wear suitable sturdy footwear. If you do not have suitable footwear we have some wellington boots. Please also dress suitably for the weather!

Everyone is welcome, but please sign up using the ‘Event Registration Form’ below.
