Restoring Enfield’s Rivers Project – Enfield Chase, River Action Day 04.01.2022.

January 4 @ 11:00 am - 2:30 pm

Thames21 and Enfield Council are teaming up to deliver conservation and restoration events in Enfield, creating cleaner and safer spaces for wildlife and people.

Join us at Enfield Chase where we will be managing habitat to improve the health of the Salmons Brook. We will be managing the river bank habitats to improve biodiversity and river health, and removing fences where possible to enhance the rewilding of the Chase.

The aim of this event is to manage habitat along the banks of the Salmons Brook. Currently the steep banks of the Salmons brook are lacking in habitat diversity. Our aim to to create a patchwork of different habitats along the Salmons Brook in Enfield Chase, improving biodiversity. We would like to see native British aquatic plants return to the banks. Opening up some sections of the river to direct sunlight will also encourage the growth of plants in the brook. Inviting in aquatic plants and water weeds will create habitats for river species whilst also controlling the flow of water down the brook and controlling sediment and agricultural runoff.

There will be a lot of scrub clearance to do and also thinning of trees along the banks of the river. To complete these tasks volunteers will may be putting on waders and jumping in the shallow river but there will also be lots of activities to do on the banks for people who don’t want to go into the water.
