Restoring Enfield’s Rivers Project – Pymmes Park, River Action Day 28.10.2021
October 28 @ 11:00 am - 2:30 pm
Thames21 and Enfield Council are teaming up to deliver conservation and restoration events in Enfield, creating cleaner and safer spaces for wildlife.
Join us at Pymmes Park where we will be managing habitat to make sure the wetlands are functioning as they should. We will also be doing a litter pick around the nature area. Our habitat management events aim to; increase water filtration function, increase biodiversity, increase plant health and manage the spaces to make them accessible for people.
This is a habitat management event, focused around the wetlands at Pymmes Park. The aim of this event is to maintain the wetland cells which filter water that runs from the Moore Brook into the Pymmes Brook. The plants in the wetland cells remove heavy metals and pollution from the water and so managing them is excellent for both humans and nature! This work will help to create a wetland that functions as a sustainable urban drainage system or SuDS. We should be able to see massive progress on the wetland. Depending on tasks being completed we may have some time to create some signage and other features to help give this area the feel of a nature reserve.
There will be lots of tasks to do on the day including thinning the reed beds, clearing litter and rubbish out of the wetlands and managing the paths to make sure the site is accessible to people using the park. To complete these tasks volunteers will be putting on waders and jumping in the shallow wetland but there will also be lots of activities to do on the banks for people who don’t want to go into the water.
Come down and help us help restore the wetlands at Pymmes Park! Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary. We provide all the tools, equipment and training so you can just turn up and get stuck in!
