River Roding water quality training

May 23 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)

Thames21 will be conducting an exciting program of water quality monitoring on the River Roding this summer, and we need citizen scientists to help. We’ll be monitoring for E.coli & Intestinal Enterococci, both commonly associated with sewage pollution, at a number of sampling locations between Wanstead Park and Loughton. This project will gather evidence to answer the question: is the River Roding safe to swim or paddle in?

If you’ve got spare time this summer and could give a few daytime hours between Monday-Thursday, we’ll be sampling weekly between May 15th-September 30th. Access to a car not necessary but volunteers must be happy to carry sampling kit between multiple sampling locations. Sampling will be conducted between Wanstead and Chigwell, so if you live in between these areas and want to find more out about water quality in your local river, get involved!

At this training event, we’ll teach you how to conduct water quality sampling and there’ll be a chance to learn more about the project. Kids are welcome but will need to be accompanied by an adult. Please wear sensible footwear and bring rain/sun protection as necessary. All other PPE & equipment will be provided.

You only need to attend one of the two training sessions, so choose whichever time slot works for you!

Meet at the north east corner of Wanstead Park by the river: ///trials.wonderfully.could
