THAMES ROAD WETLAND – MARCH SALE. YOUR CHANCE TO HELP – FOR FREE.
March 24 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Free

Looking for a healthier work/life balance…..?
Volunteer with us at Thames Road Wetland.
We’ve had lots of ‘likes’ for our Facebook posts reporting the work we’ve been doing at the site of late, so this will be the opportunity you’ve all been waiting for ………………..
You are invited to give us a hand on either the Friday 10th March (start times 10.30) or Friday 24th March (start time 10.00), when will have staff support, and a van full of waders and other equipment enabling us to kit out much-needed extra volunteers.
Finish times likely to be around 2p.m., but everyone can leave when they need to. We we also provide Tea/coffee & biscuits to all hard workers.
As usual we are racing against the clock to finish the major vegetation work before the nesting season gets into full swing. This is needed to hold back succession of the site to dry land, and to maintain the diversity of conditions required to support the many species that call the wetland home.
What work will we be doing? The 9th is likely to be spent cutting Reed, including in some shallow water, and pole-sawing and raking excess vegetation from ditches to maintain open water. The focus on 24th March is expected to be on cutting Reedmace in slightly deeper water, and possibly de-silting operations. A moderate degree of fitness is required, but no particular skills are needed and we can always find something for everybody to do.
MEETING POINT: Metal bar gate at the north end of By-way 105 along the River Cray, where it meets Thames Road. Whatthreewords code: dome.silly.above Parking possible in nearby Crayford Way.
If you’d like to join us on any or all of these dates, please contact: Michael O’Neill on 07597 584 363 / <michael.oneill@thames21.org.uk>
So that we can let you know if we have to cancel at short notice for any reason.
If you do sign up but find you can’t make it, DO LET MICHAEL KNOW.
