SUMMARY:Action for Silk Stream - River Action Day
DESCRIPTION:Join us for free our Action for Silk Stream monthly volunteering days. \nPlease book here: Action for Silk Stream Volunteer Day – Thames21 Limited \nWe will be at Rushgrove Park in Barnet where we will be giving this space a spring clean! \nActivities include balsam bashing and litter picking! \nBalsam is an invasive plant that we don’t want to see growing along our riverbanks. The best and easiest way to remove it is by pulling it out by hand. It’s easy to spot and easy to pull out. We guarantee that by the end of the day\, you will be an expert in this activity!! No previous experience necessary! \nWhere to meet: \nRushgrove Park\, Barnet\, NW9 6RD \nWhat3words: ///snows.divisions.steer \nNearest tube: Colindale (northern line) \nNote – There are no toilets on site. \nNearest toilets will be near the tube station at Costa Coffee. \nWhat to Bring: \nDress for the weather and the task – long trousers and sleeves are advisable as there are nettles and brambles. \nPlease bring a packed lunch and plenty of fluids. \nWe will bring tea/coffee and biscuits. \nWe will provide all other equipment (including wellies) needed for the event and we look forward to welcoming you! \nEmail helen.cardy@thames21.org.uk if you have any questions. \nAnyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please make sure you have weather appropriate clothing for the day. \nPlease get in touch if you have any questions about accessibility. We will do our best to make this event as accessible as possible. \n  \nThis is an event designed for the community to engage the local public with the river and not for corporates. If you are interested in a bespoke corporate volunteer day. Please visit our website  https://www.thames21.org.uk/get-involved-2/corporateteamdays/

SUMMARY:Hall Place & Gardens Bexley: Family River Event
DESCRIPTION:Come and join us for a free fun family event on the River Cray at Hall Place & Gardens! \nBook Here \nWe will be holding an end-of-summer river event for all the family where we will be helping the river and wildlife by litter picking by the river and river dipping in a shallow part of the River Cray. \nRiver dipping is a hands-on activity aimed at discovering what lives beneath the surface of a river or stream. We will use a small net to collect creatures\, especially invertebrates—animals without a backbone\, such as mayfly nymphs\, freshwater shrimp\, and caddisfly larvae. These creatures are collected from the riverbed by kick sampling (kicking the substrate into a small net) and then examined in trays of water to observe them. \nIdeal for children aged 5 upwards. All children MUST be acccompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. \nWellies and all equipment will be provided for children and adults. Please add your childrens’ welly sizes on the registration form and clearly differentiate between adult and child welly (wader) sizes. \nMeeting point: \nThe car park behind the Sports Pavilion. Details to follow in an email. \nWhat to bring on the day: Comfortable clothing is advisable. Depending on the weather do bring a hat and sunscreen\, also socks for the wellies. It is recommended to bring a spare change of bottom half clothing for kids as children frequently get water in their wellies! \nFacilities on the day: Hall Place toilets facilities will be available for use. \nRefreshments will be provided by Thames21. \nIf you have any questions about this event or wish to know more\, please email the event leader Sam at samantha.dhedhi@Thames21.org.uk \nBook Here
