SUMMARY:River Litter Detectives - Queenhithe (CANCELLED)
DESCRIPTION:Book your place HERE! \nCome along and join Thames21 as a river citizen scientist on the River Thames. We will be collecting the litter we find and categorising it into sewage derived litter\, plastic items\, and other litter. This will help us to determine the quantity of litter turning up along the river side and to investigate which litter category is the biggest problem. \nWe look forward to welcoming you to our event which will cover everything you need to know to carry out a litter survey or clean up with Thames21 Citizen Science Volunteer for Thames River Watch. \nBoth new and existing Thames21 volunteers are encouraged to attend and investigate plastic pollution on the Tidal Thames. \nPlease note that access to this site is a little challenging\, requiring climbing a step-ladder\, and over a wall. If you would like any further information about this\, please contact samantha.dhedhi@thames21.org.uk. \nThis is an event designed for the community to engage the local public with the river and not for corporates. If you are interested in a bespoke corporate volunteer day. Please visit our website https://www.thames21.org.uk/get-involved-2/corporateteamdays/ \nPlease make sure you have suitable footwear (wellies or boots) and weather appropriate clothing for the day. \nIf you have any questions please contact Sam at samantha.dhedhi@thames21.org.uk \nBook your place HERE!

Supporting activities like the Riverfly Training is part of our wider outreach to connect local people with the natural environment and build knowledge and skills around local streams and water systems\, helping us all play a part in creating a more climate-resilient community.

SUMMARY:The Health of Our Rivers: Evidence from the Ock\, Thames\, and Tributaries
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a community gathering to share and discuss the results of nine months of citizen science water quality testing across the Ock catchment and a stretch of the Thames. \nLocal volunteers have been sampling rivers and streams every month\, building a detailed picture of where our waters are healthy and where they are under threat. \nAt this event\, we’ll present the findings\, celebrate the work of our community scientists\, and bring together local people\, the water company\, government representatives and the Environment Agency to talk about what needs to happen next. \nTogether\, we’ll explore how we can take action for cleaner\, healthier rivers for wildlife and for our communities. \nTea\, coffee and light refreshments will be available. \nPlease book your free place using the booking link here. \nHow to get there \nUnit25 is conveniently located in the centre of Abingdon\, in Bury Street shopping centre. \nMany buses serve the town centre\, including the X1\, X15 and 35 from Oxford\, and the 33 from Didcot and Wallingford. \nThere are multiple car parks near Abingdon town centre. \nThis event is run by environmental charity Thames21\, part of the Ock catchment partnership\, which includes the Freshwater Habitats Trust and the Letcombe Brook Project\, along with many others. Together\, we are working for healther rivers and streams across the Ock catchment and the Thames from Oxford to Dorchester. \nFind out more about the Ock catchment partnership\, and if it covers your local river\, stream or pond here: The Ock Catchment Plan.
