SUMMARY:London Rivers Week 2026: Stanley Picker Gallery's exhibition - A Simultaneous Agreement
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome to the Stanley Picker Gallery’s exhibition ‘A Simultaneous Agreement’ presented as part of London Rivers Week 2026. The exhibition officially runs from 22 April to 18 July 2026. \nThe Stanley Picker Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am to 5pm (during exhibitions). There’s no need to book a ticket\, just drop in. \nRooted in the Hogsmill River beside the gallery\, the exhibition traces connections between English chalk streams\, Saharan phosphate mines\, and global extraction networks\, foregrounding water as both a life source and contested infrastructure. At its centre is a functioning glass fountain that filters river water inside the gallery\, alongside wearable activated-charcoal sculptures that question the logic and limits of technological purification and circular-economy solutions. \nOperating as both exhibition and civic platform\, the gallery becomes a consultation space and site for live performance\, contributing evidence towards a campaign to designate part of the Hogsmill as bathing water. \nAll under-18s must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring a bottle of water.

SUMMARY:Post-London Rivers Week 2026: Learning from nature - working with trees to improve rivers
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr Helen Moggridge on a post-London Rivers Week guided walk along the Old Lea\, learning how we can use trees in rivers to return them to a healthier and more natural state. \n\n\n\n\nPlease join us for a guided walk along the Old Lea to learn about the essential role of trees in rivers and to demonstrate how we can use this understanding to restore our rivers to a more natural state. On this walk\, you will discover the vital role that trees play in shaping our rivers and supporting wildlife (hopefully with some wildlife spots along the way!). The walk will demonstrate some of the natural features along the Old Lea and showcase some recent river restoration works. \nThe walk is aimed at anybody interested in their local river or with a general interest in nature and the environment. \nThe walk will be led by Dr Helen Moggridge. Helen is a river scientist\, environmental consultant and former university lecturer\, with academic research interests in river processes (especially trees in rivers) and river restoration. \nWe will walk the Old Lea around Hackney Marshes. The walk will be around 1.5km and will last for 1.5 hours\, but please join for as long or as far as you wish! The walk will be fully outdoors\, so please dress for the weather and bring some water and binoculars (if you have them). Strong footwear is recommended. \nThis walk is the second in a series of nature walks organised by the Rewilding the Old Lea project\, supported by The Mayor of London and Hackney Council. \nBook your place here.
