SUMMARY:London Rivers Week 2026: Twilight Elver Watch- Guided Field Evening [FULLY BOOKED]
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin the Thames21 team for a FREE guided evening walk along the River Ravensbourne to discover one of the UK’s most remarkable and endangered species\, the European eel. \nDuring this twilight field session\, we will explore the secretive upstream migration of elvers (juvenile eels) as they navigate urban river barriers in their journey inland. SUMMARY:London Rivers Week 2026: River Litter Detectives at Limekiln Dock
DESCRIPTION:Book your FREE place here! \nCome along and join Thames21 as a river citizen scientist on the River Thames. We will collect the litter we find and categorise it into sewage-derived litter\, plastic items\, and other types of litter. This will help us determine the quantity of litter turning up along the riverside and investigate which litter category poses the biggest problem. \nWe look forward to welcoming you to our event\, which will cover everything you need to know to carry out a litter survey or clean up with Thames21 Citizen Science Volunteer for Thames River Watch. \nBoth new and existing Thames21 volunteers are encouraged to attend and investigate plastic pollution on the Tidal Thames. \nThis event is suitable for anyone (over the age of 10 accompanied by an adult) with an interest in plastic pollution\, or those who want to help monitor and improve the River Thames. \nThis is an event designed for the community to engage the local public with the river and not for corporates. If you are interested in a bespoke corporate volunteer day. Please visit our website https://www.thames21.org.uk/get-involved-2/corporateteamdays/ \nPlease make sure you have suitable footwear (wellies or boots) and weather-appropriate clothing for the day. \nPlease bring a bottle of water. \nPLEASE NOTE: Access to this site involves climbing a short ladder or climbing over a flood wall. Volunteers with limited mobility may find this challenging. Please contact Sam if you would like to learn more about this. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Sam at samantha.dhedhi@thames21.org.uk. \nBook your FREE place here! \n  \n

SUMMARY:London Rivers Week 2026: River soundwalk led by afromerm [FULLY BOOKED]
DESCRIPTION:Join a free community listening walk that traces the Thames riverside from Rotherhithe to Deptford as part of London Rivers Week 2026. \nMove your body\, listen to your surroundings\, and meet new people. \nA soundwalk is\, as Hildegard Westerkamp described in 1974\, “any excursion whose main purpose is listening to the environment.” More recently\, writers such as Allie Martin and ameia camielle smith have reimagined soundwalking as a decolonial practice that we can use to reconnect with our environment. \nWhat to expect: As a group\, we’ll walk at a gentle pace\, tuning into the layers of sound that shape the Thames path\, from the obvious to the overlooked. Soundwalking is an opportunity to slow down and share the experience of deep listening in community. \nafromerm will guide the group\, offering prompts along the way\, whether it’s listening for specific sounds\, trying to listen in silence\, or discussing observations with the group. \nWhat to wear: anything comfortable/weather appropriate + comfortable shoes you can walk in for an extended period. \nWhat to bring: a bottle of water and\, if you like\, a sound recording device (voice notes on a phone work well). \nMeeting point to be confirmed nearer the event. \nafromerm is a sound artist and composer from South London. \nBook your place here. \nAll U18s must be accompanied by an adult. \nIf you sign up for the event but later find that you can’t attend\, please let us know as soon as possible. This way\, we can offer your spot to someone else who would love to participate.
