SUMMARY:Foots Cray Meadows - Managing The Reed Bed
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the beautiful Foots Cray Meadows by the historic Five Arch Bridge to help manage the reed beds on the River Cray. \nBOOK HERE! \nImmediately downstream from Five Arch Bridge is a reed bed that several years ago was non-existent. It reached the point where it was completely as wide as the river and became an obstruction. It is regularly thinned out\, however we intend to remove a section of it between 4 and 5 metres wide and about 30 metres long by digging / pulling out the rhizome roots. The reed mat takes a little bit of effort to dig out\, hence the need for a reasonable level of fitness. Also some help is needed to move the cut material back from the bank. \nWe will meet at the Foots Cray Meadows Information Centre (https://maps.app.goo.gl/vPbbMRothX58cDfH7)\, (What3words location: wasp.grace.depend) at 10:00am for kit and waders and return there between 12:30pm and 1:00pm for refreshments. \nThe work will be carried out standing in the river with waders on. Waders and all tools ad PPE will be provided. \nRefreshments will be served after the event. \nThis is event is being run with the Cray River Action Group (CRAG) at Foots Cray Meadows. \nThis is an event designed for the community to engage the local public with the river and not for corporates. If you are interested in a bespoke corporate volunteer day. Please visit our website  https://www.thames21.org.uk/get-involved-2/corporateteamdays/ \nBOOK HERE!

SUMMARY:Hall Place & Gardens Bexley: Family River Event
DESCRIPTION:Come and join us for a free fun family event on the River Cray at Hall Place & Gardens! \nBook Here \nWe will be holding an end-of-summer river event for all the family where we will be helping the river and wildlife by litter picking by the river and river dipping in a shallow part of the River Cray. \nRiver dipping is a hands-on activity aimed at discovering what lives beneath the surface of a river or stream. We will use a small net to collect creatures\, especially invertebrates—animals without a backbone\, such as mayfly nymphs\, freshwater shrimp\, and caddisfly larvae. These creatures are collected from the riverbed by kick sampling (kicking the substrate into a small net) and then examined in trays of water to observe them. \nIdeal for children aged 5 upwards. All children MUST be acccompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. \nWellies and all equipment will be provided for children and adults. Please add your childrens’ welly sizes on the registration form and clearly differentiate between adult and child welly (wader) sizes. \nMeeting point: \nThe car park behind the Sports Pavilion. Details to follow in an email. \nWhat to bring on the day: Comfortable clothing is advisable. Depending on the weather do bring a hat and sunscreen\, also socks for the wellies. It is recommended to bring a spare change of bottom half clothing for kids as children frequently get water in their wellies! \nFacilities on the day: Hall Place toilets facilities will be available for use. \nRefreshments will be provided by Thames21. \nIf you have any questions about this event or wish to know more\, please email the event leader Sam at samantha.dhedhi@Thames21.org.uk \nBook Here
