DESCRIPTION:To mark London Rivers Week\, join Creekside Discovery Centre on this special two-part free walk following the Ravensbourne River from its source to where it meets the Thames – exploring the landscapes\, wildlife and stories of the river along the way. \nOften hidden\, diverted or overlooked\, the Ravensbourne flows through woods\, parks and neighbourhoods\, shaping the places it passes through in ways that are easy to miss. Walking the river in stages offers a chance to see it as a whole\, from clear spring-fed beginnings to tidal estuary. \nStarting in Beckenham\, we’ll follow the river north through Lewisham and Deptford\, finishing where the Ravensbourne meets the River Thames. \n📍 Ravensbourne Rail Station\, Beckenham \nBook your place here.\nAll U18s must be accompanied by an adult. \nPlease bring a bottle of water\, sunscreen and snacks.

DESCRIPTION:Would you like to be able to identify the signs of a healthy river? \nJoin us as we journey through the evolution of a river\, covering key concepts that explore the physical characteristics and functioning of river systems. \nYou will gain understanding in the importance of protecting the ecology and natural processes of a river systems. You will also develop practical skills identifying the signs of a healthy river during a practical river wade along the River Ravensbourne. \nBOOK HERE \nDate: Friday 29th May 2026 \nVenue: The Brookmill\, 65 Cranbrook Rd\, London SE8 4EJ \nTimings: \n\n10:00– 12:30 (classroom session at The Brookmill)\n13:30 – 16:00 (outdoor session + river wade along the Ravensbourne River)\n\nWhat to bring:  \n\nLunch: Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of drinking water.\nClothing: Please wear long trousers and wear or bring a long-sleeved top/fleece/jumper to protect yourself from nettles or giant hogweed.\nFootwear: Please wear sensible footwear with good grips for the walk to the site for the outdoor session.\n\nWaders: Please fill in the waders section in the sign-up form\, so I know your shoe size and can make sure I bring enough waders to fit everyone. \nContact: For further details\, please contact Issy Petersen-Adams (issy.petersen-adams@thames21.org.uk) \nAnyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nIf you have any specific access requirements please get in touch and we will do our best to make the event as accessible as possible. \nBOOK HERE \nPlease note\, this is an event designed for the community to engage the local public with the river.
