SUMMARY:River Litter Detectives - Queenhithe
DESCRIPTION:Book your place HERE! \nCome along and join Thames21 as a river citizen scientist on the River Thames. We will be collecting the litter we find and categorising it into sewage derived litter\, plastic items\, and other litter. This will help us to determine the quantity of litter turning up along the river side and to investigate which litter category is the biggest problem. \nWe look forward to welcoming you to our event which will cover everything you need to know to carry out a litter survey or clean up with Thames21 Citizen Science Volunteer for Thames River Watch. \nBoth new and existing Thames21 volunteers are encouraged to attend and investigate plastic pollution on the Tidal Thames. \nPlease note that access to this site is a little challenging\, requiring climbing a step-ladder\, and over a wall. If you would like any further information about this\, please contact samantha.dhedhi@thames21.org.uk. \nThis is an event designed for the community to engage the local public with the river and not for corporates. If you are interested in a bespoke corporate volunteer day. Please visit our website https://www.thames21.org.uk/get-involved-2/corporateteamdays/ \nPlease make sure you have suitable footwear (wellies or boots) and weather appropriate clothing for the day. \nIf you have any questions please contact Sam at samantha.dhedhi@thames21.org.uk \nBook your place HERE!

SUMMARY:Thames Road Wetland: Help Manage An Important Wetland (CANCELLED)
DESCRIPTION:Book Here! \nVolunteering some time for wetland habitat maintenance is a valuable way to help the environment and safeguard fragile ecosystems. Wetlands are crucial for biodiversity and play important roles in purifying water\, controlling floods\, and storing carbon. \nIt’s not only beneficial for the environment but also a rewarding way to connect with nature and benefit your local community. Your efforts can help protect and preserve these vital ecosystems for future generations. \nWe have Thames21 staff-supported events on the second Friday of every month\, if you would like to volunteer\, please come down\, we can kit you out with waders so that you can assist with more Winter Reed cutting in shallow water areas\, designed to try and weaken some of the stands of this vigorous plant in order to maintain a greater variety of vegetation types. \nThere are other tasks too\, such as pruning work to open pathways\, pollarding sallows (trimming small trees)\, and some litter picking duties. We will provide all the equipment needed. \nYou will need work clothes\, adequate sun/rain shower protection and any food and drink required. As it is wild land there are no toilet facilities on site\, but there are toilet facilities and a canteen nearby at the council depot.  Tea\, coffee and biscuits are provided on site. \nThe event starts at 10.30am but please arrive at 10am to get kitted up and briefed at the meeting point\, which is by the steps near Thames Rd on By-way 105 (what3words location: dome.silly.above)\,  near the bridge that crosses the river Cray on Thames Road. To sign up to this event please click this link: \nThames Road Wetland: Help Manage An Important Wetland  \nPlease contact Sam at Samantha.Dhedhi@thames21.org.uk if you have any further questions. Please ensure you book your place so we can provide kit for you. Finish time is around 2pm\, but feel free to go whenever you need to. \nChris Rose. Volunteer Site Manager. \nThis is an event designed for the community\, to engage the local public with the river and not for corporates.
