SUMMARY:River Cray at Crayford: Riverside Vegetation Management
DESCRIPTION:Join us on the River Cray at Crayford! \nBOOK HERE! \nThis is a volunteer session to help cut back the overgrown vegetation on the banks of the River Cray and use it to build a dead hedge. \nWe will be cutting brambles and small saplings to build a dead hedge. A dead hedge is a barrier made from fallen branches\, prunings and other woody debris\, constructed by piling materials between two parallel rows of stakes. It serves as a wildlife habitat for insects\, birds\, and small mammals\, while also acting as a natural fence or windbreak. \nPlease note: A reasonable level of physical fitness is required for this event due to the nature of the tasks involved. The cutting will partly be on a steep bank so a level of dexterity and balance is required. There will also be tasks of moving the cut branches to a near by site to build the dead hedge. \nWe will provide all tools\, gloves\, equipment and wellies. \nWhere to meet: \nThis will take place on the near bank of the River Cray on Footpath 106\, near the entrance to the footpath in Barnes Cray Road postcode DA1 4NR. Google link here \nWhat 3 Words: escape.noted.ally \nPublic transport: The nearest Station is Crayford which is 15 mins walk from the meeting point. The closest bus is the 428 which runs along Crayford Way. \nParking: There is free street parking on Barnes Cray Road near the meeting point. \nWhat to bring: \nPlease dress for the weather and the task. Long trousers and sleeves are advisable as there are brambles. Plus layers to keep warm. \nPlease do bring your own water / drink. \nWe will provide refreshments: Tea\, coffee and biscuits. \nThere are no on site facilities however there are corner shops about 5 minutes walk away and Crayford Town Centre is 15 minutes walk away. \nIf you have any questions\, please email samantha.dhedhi@thames21.org.uk. \nThis event is unsuitable for children under 18 years old. \nPlease get in touch if you have any questions about accessibility. We will do our best to make this event as accessible as possible. \nThis event is being run with the Friends of River Cray at Crayford. \nBOOK HERE! \nPLEASE NOTE: This is an event designed for the community to engage the local public with the river and not for corporates. If you are interested in a bespoke corporate volunteer day. Please visit our website  https://www.thames21.org.uk/get-involved-2/corporateteamdays/
