The data collected by our citizen scientists are vital to drive change in local catchments. Take part in our citizen scientist event in Maidenhead on Saturday 21st March to find out more. \nBOOK HERE. \nDate: Saturday 21 March 2025 \nVenue: Braywick Nature Centre\, Hibbert Rd\, Maidenhead\, SL6 1UU \nTimings: 09:15 – 16:00 (more details are in the below table). SUMMARY:Friary Park Spring Wetland Planting Event
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer with Thames21 to bring the newly excavated wetlands in Friary Park to life! \nThis 4-cell wetland has been designed to store floodwaters and naturally treat water flowing in from Blackett’s Brook. The wetland vegetation plays a crucial role in removing excess nutrients and breaking down pollutants\, while also creating a vibrant habitat for wildlife and enhancing the park’s natural beauty. \nWe need your help to plant the final 1\,000 plug plants in the wetland cells with easy-to-use tools. These plants will help purify the water\, stabilise the banks and create a biodiverse landscape. \nNo experience is needed – all training and guidance will be provided. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with nature and meet others in your community. \nPlease note\, this activity involves getting in the wetland cells and walking up and down the banks. Wellies and waders will be provided. \nPlease wear weather appropriate clothing you don’t mind getting muddy and bring food and water for yourself. Tea\, coffee and biscuits will be provided. \nWe will meet by the wetland cells on the west side of the park at 9:30am. SUMMARY:London Rivers Week 2026: Introduction to MoRPh CSci training event [FULLY BOOKED]
DESCRIPTION:As part of London Rivers Week\, Cartographer are hosting a free\, open\, in-person ‘Introduction to MoRPh’ training. This one-day training course will teach you how to conduct a MoRPh survey so that you can assess and monitor the physical health of your river. \n\n\nWhy MoRPh? The MoRPh survey is conducted at short river lengths and records physical habitat\, vegetation and human impacts. Surveys are entered into the MoRPh Citizen Science database which produces a series of condition indicators about the health of the river. This introductory video provides further information about the MoRPh survey. \nWhat does the training involve? This course will teach you how to conduct a MoRPh survey and how to enter and view surveys in the database. This one-day training includes a morning of classroom teaching\, followed by riverside field training in the afternoon. We will be visiting a newly-restored section of the River Crane to see how MoRPh can be used to monitor the impacts of restoration.
