SUMMARY:Sands End River Clean Up & Litter Detectives
DESCRIPTION:Come along and join Thames21 as a river citizen scientist on the River Thames. We will be collecting the litter we find and categorising it into sewage derived litter\, plastic items\, and other litter. This event is suitable to anyone (over the age of 10 with an adult) who has an interest in plastic pollution or if you want to help monitor and improve the Thames river. \nThis is an event designed for the community to engage the local public with the river and not for corporates. If you are interested in a bespoke corporate volunteer day. Please visit our website https://www.thames21.org.uk/get-involved-2/corporatevolunteer \nPlease make sure you have suitable footwear (wellies or boots) that covers your ankles and weather-appropriate clothing for the day as this site tends to be very muddy. \nIf you have any questions please contact Steph at stephanie.fernandes@thames21.org.uk \nThis will be a fun\, relaxed event and everyone is welcome to come learn\, explore and enjoy! \nBook your place here

SUMMARY:Thames Road Wetland: Help Manage An Important Wetland
DESCRIPTION:Book Here! \nVolunteering some time for wetland habitat maintenance is a valuable way to help the environment and safeguard fragile ecosystems. Wetlands are crucial for biodiversity and play important roles in purifying water\, controlling floods\, and storing carbon. \nIt’s not only beneficial for the environment but also a rewarding way to connect with nature and benefit your local community. Your efforts can help protect and preserve these vital ecosystems for future generations. \nWe have Thames21 staff-supported events on the second Friday of every month\, if you would like to volunteer\, please come down\, we can kit you out with waders so that you can assist with more Winter Reed cutting in shallow water areas\, designed to try and weaken some of the stands of this vigorous plant in order to maintain a greater variety of vegetation types. \nThere are other tasks too\, such as pruning work to open pathways\, pollarding sallows (trimming small trees)\, and some litter picking duties. We will provide all the equipment needed. \nYou will need work clothes\, adequate sun/rain shower protection and any food and drink required. As it is wild land there are no toilet facilities on site\, but there are toilet facilities and a canteen nearby at the council depot.  Tea\, coffee and biscuits are provided on site. \nThe event starts at 10.30am but please arrive at 10am to get kitted up and briefed at the meeting point\, which is by the steps near Thames Rd on By-way 105 (what3words location: dome.silly.above)\,  near the bridge that crosses the river Cray on Thames Road. To sign up to this event please click this link: \nThames Road Wetland: Help Manage An Important Wetland  \nPlease contact Sam at Samantha.Dhedhi@thames21.org.uk if you have any further questions. Please ensure you book your place so we can provide kit for you. Finish time is around 2pm\, but feel free to go whenever you need to. \nChris Rose. Volunteer Site Manager. \nThis is an event designed for the community\, to engage the local public with the river and not for corporates. If you are interested in a bespoke corporate volunteer day\, please visit our website https://www.thames21.org.uk/get-involved-2/corporatevolunteering/

SUMMARY:Slowing the Flow: Oxleas Woods
DESCRIPTION:Join us to turn Oxleas Woods into a flood-fighting\, biodiversity-boosting powerhouse! \nThis winter\, join us for 17 fun and hands-on volunteer events as we transform Oxleas Woods into a thriving wet woodland. Together\, we’ll help slow the flow of floodwater\, protect downstream communities\, and create a vibrant habitat for wildlife. \nActivities include building leaky dams along the river Wogebourne in Oxleas and Bostall Woods. These fun\, practical activities help slow floodwaters and create vital habitats for local plants and animals\, all while connecting people with nature! \nWhere to meet: \nOxleas Woods Café – What 3 Words: reply.bleat.live \nNearest station – Falconwood \nWhat to Bring: \nDress for the weather and the task – long trousers and sleeves are advisable as there are nettles and brambles. \nPlease bring a packed lunch and plenty of fluids. \nWe will bring tea/coffee and biscuits. \nWe will provide all other equipment (including wellies) needed for the event and we look forward to welcoming you! \nEmail charlie.southard@thames21.org.uk if you have any questions. \nAnyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
