…AND HELP THAMES21!
Regatta London is the UK’s first mass participation paddle sports event, created to raise money for UK charities and to celebrate the natural world. With the Thames Barrier closed on Sunday 29 September 2019, Regatta London offers you a unique chance to experience London like never before: to row, kayak canoe or SUP (stand up paddle board) 12 miles through the heart of London, with no tide and no other non-racing boats.
As one of the headline charities, Thames21 has a limited number of fundraising places available for a registration fee of £40 per person and a minimum sponsorship of £300 per person.
RAISE FUNDS TO PROTECT RIVERS IN LONDON!
Sums raised will help us in our core work: empowering Londoners to fight plastic and other forms of river pollution; helping more people discover and visit their local river; restoring rivers back to a more natural state, so that people and wildlife can cope better with the impacts of climate change such as flooding and drought.
WHY TAKE PART?
For one amazing day, rowing, kayak canoe and SUP will take over the river Thames. Thanks to the planned closure of the Thames Barrier, the river will transform from one of the roughest stretches of inland water to the calmest. Thousands of people are expected to participate in this pioneering event and to raise significant funds for good causes. As London’s leading waterways charity, Thames21 would love you to take part and help raise much-needed funds for our work protecting London’s rivers.
Participants will get a unique experience, thanks to the closure of the Thames Barrier the Thames becomes non-tidal. In addition to stopping the tide, the river closure creates a safer environment with no other non-racing boats.
You will be able to experience London’s landmarks from the city’s watery heart, the Thames – and glide past iconic landmarks such as the Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Shard, Tower Bridge and Greenwich Naval College.
Two iconic routes are available based on the level of experience –The London Crossing (starting near Hammersmith and finishing in Greenwich), and The Big Ben Challenge (looped course from Putney to Big Ben and back).
Race it or take part as a personal challenge, it will be you vs the River Thames!
