DESCRIPTION:More than just a landmark\, the River Thames has been a water source for Londoners for two millennia; its tides have dictated the shape of the city and the reach of its trade. To walk its banks with a camera is to document the history of the capital. \nJoin Thames21 for a free curated photo walk along the Thames as part of London Rivers Week\, where documentary maker Gemma Duncan\, together with mudlarks Jessica Forde and Lesley McDonnell\, will walk you past historical ‘destinations’ and introduce basic photography composition to spark the creativity behind your next shot. \nStarting at the medieval entrance to Old London Bridge\, we’ll cross the river and walk the Southbank\, stopping at meeting points along the way. At each stop\, you’ll hear about London’s medieval ‘living’ bridge\, Roman London\, the global trade of the 18th–19th centuries\, Frost Fairs\, and stories of the river that has shaped London so much. \nBetween each meeting point\, you’ll have free rein to snap away\, capturing whatever might inspire you. You’ll be given a map before the walk\, so you’ll know when and where to regroup at the next meeting point. \nJust as the River Thames has evolved\, so has photography. We encourage all mediums\, whether you shoot on 35mm film\, a pinhole camera\, a modern DSLR\, or even a toy camera. After the event\, you’ll have the opportunity to submit your favourite photo to the Thames21 team to be featured in a showcase of the river’s history. \nWhether you’re a complete beginner or a photographer with an interest in history\, come and capture this historic river through a new lens. \n  \nWhat to bring: \n● Weather-Ready Gear: This is London! Please bring a waterproof jacket and a protective cover (or a simple plastic bag) for your camera in case of rain. \n● Comfortable Footwear: We will be walking on a mix of pavement and historic\, often uneven ground. \n● Snacks and Water: While there will be places along the Southbank to get supplies\, bring some snacks along if you want something close to hand. \nIf any questions in advance\, please contact Gemma on gemmaduncan.film@gmail.com. \n  \nMeeting point: Lower Thames St\, London – EC3R 6DN \nBook your spot here.\nAll U18s must be accompanied by an adult. \nIf you sign up for the event but later find that you can’t attend\, please let us know as soon as possible.
