Understanding Urban Rivers 

Learn to look at rivers in a new way. This is an introductory course for anyone wanting to better understand the science of rivers, the pressures they face, and how to recognise the signs of a healthy river in your community.  

 

Introduction to River Restoration

In this course, you will learn about river restoration techniques and their application in real-world situations through a mix of classroom and outdoor learning. We’ll cover how to plan a river restoration project and look at some case studies of completed projects in London.  

You must complete the Understanding Urban Rivers course before attending Introduction to Rivers Restoration.  

 

Leading Action for Healthy Rivers

– an NCFE accredited customised qualification 

This course will give you the skills and confidence necessary to plan and run safe and effective river action events in your community. It will enable you to set up your own River Action Group (RAG) and contribute to the growing network of groups taking action for rivers across London.

Become an AquaTracker: Water Quality Monitoring Course 

This course will equip you with a range of skills and knowledge on water quality monitoring methods that you can go on to utilise as a citizen scientist. We will explore the main causes of poor water quality, the value of citizen science, and demonstrate how to sample, test and process water quality data. 

 

Urban Riverfly Monitoring 

A course developed for people interested in becoming Urban Riverfly Monitors. Through a mix of classroom and outdoor activities, you will learn how to sample, identify and interpret invertebrate assemblages in your local river.

Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS): From concrete jungles to sponge cities 

Discover how wetlands, rain gardens and green roofs can contribute to improved water quality, reduced flood risk and a more resilient and liveable urban environment. A one-day course, developed to provide a better understanding on the role of sustainable drainage systems in urban environments, and how they link to the health of river systems.
