Understanding Urban Rivers Training Course

Would you like to be able to identify the signs of a healthy river?
Join us as we journey through the evolution of a river, from source to mouth. We will cover key concepts that explore the physical characteristics and functioning of river systems. You will gain an understanding of the importance of protecting the ecology and natural processes of a river system while learning about some of the negative impacts rivers are facing and the consequences these can have.
This course provides foundational knowledge and is compulsory if you want to attend our Introduction to River Restoration course.
Date: Friday 18th September 2026
Time: 10:00 – 16:00 (please note, on some occasions we may finish the training earlier than expected)
Location: Blue Garage, 30 Engate Street, Lewisham, London, SE13 7HA

- River Ecosystems
- Urban River Pressures
- Signs of a Healthy River
The course will consist of classroom learning followed by a visit to a nearby river (we will not be getting in the river!). If you have any specific access requirements please get in touch and we will do our best to make the event as accessible as possible.
You will receive an email closer to the day with further information on what to bring.
