London Rivers Week 2026: Thames Tideway walk – Blackfriars to Vauxhall Bridge (two sessions)

Get your walking boots on and join this FREE guided walk along three public realm sites of the Thames Tideway Tunnel – their design, engineering and place in the Thames’ history.
There will be two sessions for this walk: one in the morning and another in the afternoon.

What was behind the design of public realm sites along the Thames Tideway Tunnel? How is the Thames Tideway Tunnel helping to improve water quality of the river as part of a 3-stage improvement scheme?
During London Rivers Week 2026, come and join Ian and Neil from the Environment Agency for a FREE guided walk along the tidal River Thames to visit three of the new ‘Super Sewer’ foreshore sites. You will hear about the water quality history of the Thames, the engineering and architectural aspects of the sites, and the Environment Agency’s role during construction and operation of the Thames Tideway Tunnel.
Distance: approximately 2.5 miles
Meeting point and time: 2pm at Bazalgette Embankment, Blackfriars
The walk will proceed along the embankment to Tideway’s Tyburn Quay (opposite the London Eye) and end at Effra Quay (adjacent to Vauxhall Bridge) at approximately 4pm
Please be prepared with comfortable and weather-appropriate clothing, healthy snacks and plenty of water.
All under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.
