London Rivers Week 2026: Introduction to MoRPh CSci training event

May 31 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm
Free

As part of London Rivers Week, Cartographer are hosting a free, open, in-person ‘Introduction to MoRPh’ training. This one-day training course will teach you how to conduct a MoRPh survey so that you can assess and monitor the physical health of your river.

Why MoRPh? The MoRPh survey is conducted at short river lengths and records physical habitat, vegetation and human impacts. Surveys are entered into the MoRPh Citizen Science database which produces a series of condition indicators about the health of the river. This introductory video provides further information about the MoRPh survey.

What does the training involve? This course will teach you how to conduct a MoRPh survey and how to enter and view surveys in the database. This one-day training includes a morning of classroom teaching, followed by riverside field training in the afternoon. We will be visiting a newly-restored section of the River Crane to see how MoRPh can be used to monitor the impacts of restoration. The course will qualify you to become a MoRPh CSci surveyor.
