Thames21 joins Earth Raise 2026 – the UK’s largest environmental fundraising
Environmental charity Thames21 is delighted to announce that we have been accepted to take part in Earth Raise 2026 – the UK’s ‘largest environmental match funding campaign’ .
From 22nd to 29th April 2026, every donation made to Thames21 will be doubled through match funding provided by generous philanthropists and funders, as part of the Big Give’s Earth Raise campaign.
The campaign starts on World Earth Day (22nd April) and brings together more than 300 environmental charities across the UK working to tackle the climate and nature crisis.
Why Earth Raise matters
Since its launch in 2021 (previously known as the Green Match Fund), Earth Raise has raised £23 million for environmental charities working to protect our planet. Last year alone, the campaign raised a record-breaking £8.1 million, supporting 307 environmental organisations.
Earth Raise aims to become the annual, defining moment for environmental fundraising in the UK – because while 82% of Brits worry about climate change, less than 6% of charitable giving goes to environmental causes.
How your support will help
London’s rivers are havens for wildlife and people, but they also face great challenges, including regular discharges of untreated sewage, run-off from busy roads and increasing plastic pollution. In this critical era of climate and biodiversity crises, the need to restore and enhance local rivers and reinstate their natural functions has never been more urgent.
Generous donations to Earth Raise will help Thames21:
- Restore more rivers in 2026 and beyond
- Create wetlands and plant trees to reduce flood risk
- Train and mobilise thousands of volunteers in hands-on river care and citizen science
- Work with communities to inspire future environmental champions and community-led action
How match funding works
It’s simple: every pound donated to Thames21 between 22nd and 29th April will be matched pound-for-pound. Your £25 becomes £50. Your £50 becomes £100. Your £100 becomes £200.
Chris Coode, CEO at Thames21, said: “We’re thrilled to be part of Earth Raise 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to accelerate our work transforming London and the Thames Basin into a healthier, more climate-resilient region with rivers that everyone can enjoy. With match funding doubling every donation, supporters can make twice the impact for rivers, wildlife, and communities during this crucial week.”
