London Rivers Week 2026: Deptford Creek Fish Survey

May 28 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Free

Want to learn more about the aquatic life that calls Deptford Creek home? Join Creekside Discovery Centre on a FREE fish survey as part of London Rivers Week 2026.

During last year’s surveys, we recorded species including Sea Bass, Common Goby, Three-spined Stickleback, Dace and Eel, highlighting the importance of the Creek as a habitat for a wide range of wildlife.

This survey forms part of a series of regular wildlife surveys looking at all species that use the Creek, including fish, birds, invertebrates, plants and even algae. The data collected helps assess habitat quality and informs future habitat management.

No previous experience is needed — this session is suitable for beginners as well as those who have attended surveys before.

What to expect

  • A guided fish survey led by experienced staff
  • Hands-on monitoring of fish species using safe survey techniques
  • Support with identifying species and learning about their life cycles and habitats
  • An opportunity to contribute to long-term monitoring of Deptford Creek

What to bring

  • Clothing suitable for the weather
  • Trousers and socks that can get wet or muddy
  • All specialist equipment, including waders, will be provided

This event is suitable for adults and children aged 10+. All U18s must be accompanied by an adult.
