London Rivers Week 2026: Estuary Edges – From creek to open water

Join a member of the Environment Agency for a free walk around Greenwich, looking at ways to improve tidal walls for wildlife as part of London Rivers Week 2026.
We’ll walk from Deptford to East Greenwich in about an hour and a half. We’ll look at a variety of fringing ecological enhancements to the otherwise sterile vertical walls, some of which are known as ‘vertical beaches’. We will discuss their benefits to ecology and the challenges of getting them installed and maintained. We will climb down some steps onto the foreshore near the Cutty Sark, and we’ll finish at River Gardens Café, 20 River Gardens Walk, London SE10 0FZ.
