City Nature Challenge – Eastbrookend Bio-Blitz and Nature Day
April 27 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm
In partnership with the LBBD Ranger team at Eastbrookend Country Park, we are participating in the City Nature Challenge. Help us find and record as much local wildlife as possible for this global nature challenge.
Join the City Nature Challenge 2024! This exciting global nature competition sees cities around the world competing to find and record as much wildlife as possible over one weekend.
With partner organisations we will be assisting a huge Bio-Blitz across Eastbrookend Country Park and The Chase Local Nature Reserve using the iNaturalist App to save our findings – so bring your charged mobile phone!
Start by learning how the app works via our info session, then either join one of our guided walks or feel free to explore the parks at your own pace, looking for all kinds of plants, animals, birds, fungi, insects, reptiles etc along the way. Everything counts!
· Thames Chase will be able to get you going with your bug-hunting skills near the Discovery Centre
· Try some pond-dipping in the lake to see what lives beneath the water
· Learn about Bumblebees with LBDD Rangers and go on a Bee Walk
· Join a guided walk to the new Rom Wetlands in The Chase LNR with Thames 21 to see how the rewilding is shaping up
· Thames 21 will demonstrate how Riverfly monitoring can be used to measure water quality in rivers
Please take care when exploring, as the ground may be uneven in places. Wear sensible footwear and dress appropriately for the weather.
