London Rivers Week 2024: Short film screening of Jack Thurgar’s ‘The Swamp’ and talk by Tom Bolton on Obscure Rivers

June 26 @ 10:15 am - 12:00 pm

Join us as part of London Rivers Week 2024 for a short film screening of Jack Thurgar’s ‘The Swamp’ and talk by Tom Bolton on ‘obscure rivers’.

Thurgar’s film explores a secret wild patch of land where a tributary of the River Quaggy (south-east London) flows through and feeds a large pond there. The film, the first in a new series of films, is made of footage he produced over a period of 20 years.

Have you heard of the Bollo Brook, the Black Ditch, the Moselle or the Falcon? Author Tom Bolton has tracked London rivers through the modern streetscape that you may have never heard of. He will talk about the traces they have left behind them, and how they open up both the past and the present.

Bolton is the author of London’s Lost Rivers: A Walker’s Guide Volumes 1 & 2, Vanished City: London’s Lost Neighbourhoods, Low Country: Brexit on the Essex Coast; and Camden Town: Dreams of Another London.

Date and time: Wednesday 26th June. 10.15am to 12pm

Location:  Walbrook Wharf building, 78-83 Upper Thames Street, EC4R 3TD
